Plus Architecture 2019, original construction 1889
Plus Architecture's Melbourne studio occupies a boutique heritage building in the heart of the CBD, reinvigorated in 2019 to deliver a flexible workshop-style studio that exposes and celebrates the historic space it occupies.
Originally built in 1889, the six-storey, Victorian Heritage Inventory-listed, Queen Anne building has been transformed into an eclectic and personality-filled workspace, designed with nods to the building's previous lives.
Located at 107 Elizabeth Street, between Collins and Little Collins Streets, the building has stood for over 130 years in a historic and thriving hub for arts and literature.
Notable tenants to call the building home throughout the years include a significant Robertson and Mullens bookshop, a printing press, and Sedon Galleries.
With adaptive reuse on the rise in the built environment, Plus Architecture's Melbourne studio is a standout example of the preservation of our urban landscapes for more sustainable outcomes by breathing new life into heritage buildings rather than adding to the growing number of vacant aging CBD buildings.
Plus Architecture is opening its doors to the public for the first time as part of Open House Melbourne, in a rare opportunity for visitors to experience a tour of the practice's Melbourne studio. Along the way, gain insight into on how we can best reactivate our heritage buildings to help attract workers, businesses and visitors back into the CBD.
