Add to ItineraryDescription
Throughout the 1970s, a resurgent bohemian culture developed in St Kilda. Artists, students, musicians, writers and film makers were drawn to the suburb by affordable rents and an eclectic mix of residents. By the 1980s, St Kilda had become synonymous with the underground music scene and experimental, independent artistic practice.
Recognition by Council of the growing creative community inspired a dynamic artistic program established through activities associated with the inaugural St Kilda Festival in 1980.
Celebrating St Kilda’s status as Victoria’s first Live Music Precinct.
