Add to ItineraryDescription
Schwerkolt Cottage and Museum is a historic museum complex surrounded by 2.25 hectares of bushland. Established in 1884, the historical buildings, walking tracks, cottage garden, barbecue area and family playground are the perfect place to explore early history in Whitehorse. The cottage adjoins the Yarran Dheran bushland park in the heart of Mitcham.
What's On
Come along for a special opportunity to explore inside Schwerkolt Cottage and learn about its construction and history. Tour the 19th-century stone cottage with a guide and walk around the barn, smithy, smokehouse, cellar and orcharding shed.
Explore the local history room with Whitehorse Historical Society and warm up with a Devonshire tea.
The Needlework Tapestry Guild of Victoria will be inside the museum giving demonstrations. See stunning examples of furniture and wood craft on display by the Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking.
Children's Activities
Kids can see the Pepperwood Farm doll house inside the museum and get inspired to create their own fairy house or furniture at craft activity stations. The extensive grounds also include a barbecue area and family playground.

The Needlework Tapestry Guild of Victoria Inc.
We aim to foster and support the practice of, and interest in, needlework throughout Victoria with particular emphasis on needlepoint tapestry. Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking
The Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking (The Guild) was founded by Alastair Boell in 2007. After graduating from the world-renowned North Bennet Street School in Boston, USA, Alastair felt that there was a great need in Australia for an educational facility that focused on traditional skills.
