Floating Wetlands: Docklands to Enterprize Park

Add to Itinerary

Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DEECA) x City of Melbourne

Description

It has been almost two years since the Floating Wetlands were installed at three locations in the Yarra River – Birrarung as part of a trial funded by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. These wetlands will help identify opportunities to enhance the river system's health and improve the experience of our city landscapes, as well as inform the overall design of the Greenline Project.

The wetlands are made from a series of interlocking platforms that are placed on the water and securely anchored to the riverbed. These platforms feature hundreds of young, native Indigenous plants, which provide access for and attract birds and other wildlife that inhabit the river.
