Description

St Michael’s Grammar School Performing Arts Centre, St George’s, is the remarkable transformation of the heritage-listed St George’s Uniting Church, situated on the St Michael’s Grammar School campus in St Kilda. Through thoughtful interventions, including a multifunctional brass ingot within the nave, this adaptive reuse project has breathed new life into the building. The original proportions and detailing of the space have been preserved, while cutting-edge audiovisual technologies have overcome acoustic limitations. Students now have unique opportunities to explore performing arts in an unconventional theatre environment. The result is a space that honours the past while shaping the future of talent in performing arts.

What's On

There will be presentations and a student performance. The director of performing arts will share insights into the artistic vision and significance of the redeveloped facility. The architects, Kneeler Design, will present the innovative design process and the benefits of the redevelopment. The audience will enjoy a performance by talented students, showcasing their artistic abilities in the new facility.

Between 9am-12pm and 1pm-3pm, visitors are invited to engage in self-guided tours throughout the space, with the opportunity to speak to key members of the project’s design team and the school.

For those curious about the architecture, there will be tours guided by the architect and members of the school, where you can learn about the thoughtful adaptations that revitalised the space while preserving its heritage fabric.
