Description

The University of Melbourne’s Student Precinct aims to enhance student experience through reconciliation, diversity and connection, with scalability of activity from festival mode to everyday social modes throughout 24,000 square metres of new and refurbished buildings and 12,000 square metres of new landscape.

The first precinct-wide development at the Parkville campus, the project embeds greater recognition of First Nations cultures whilst ensuring that captured student perspectives are infused into its design.

By lowering the original raised plaza back to a new ‘ground’ condition, the landscape-led pedestrian terrain is transformative, creating an inclusive and porous experience that embeds cultural connection at the heart of student experience. Two new 6 Star Green Star-designed buildings dedicated to arts and culture and a Student ‘Pavilion’ reside alongside four refurbished heritage assets, sustainably regenerated through careful restoration, and embedded in a rich landscape linked to Indigenous stories and flora and fauna.

What's On

Guided tours led by members of the Design Team and the University of Melbourne will take participants through the precinct.

The Student Precinct Project is a once-in-a-generation infrastructure project for the University of Melbourne – one that will have a transformative impact on the student experience. The project is one of the biggest investments the University has made in its iconic Parkville campus to date, and signals the University’s commitment to delivering a world-class, campus-based experience for all students.

Located in the heart of the Parkville campus, on the corner of Grattan and Swanston Streets, it’s the first fully co-created major project in the University’s 170-year history. This means that the voice of the University community has been at the centre of the project’s design and development, with more than 20,000 students, staff and alumni actively contributing their ideas and expertise to inform the planning and design process.
