Alspec Return to the Centre: The Future of the Australian CBD

Add to Itinerary

Description

COVID profoundly changed our relationship to the private and public realm and to built and open space. It seems improbable - and undesirable – that the life of the city will return to what was once thought of as the status quo.

As spheres of work, home and recreation were altered, new possibilities for how we might do life and occupy our physical environments emerged.

Alongside these rapid recalibrations, our changing climate and rises in living costs have been exerting their own influence on the shapes and patterns of urban life. So what does this mean for the disrupted city centre?

What's On

The general public are invited to this special panel conversation, which asks: what economic, social, and cultural rhythms do we want to see arise from a disturbance so ripe with possibility? How can the lessons we learned during COVID guide us now? As we return to the centre, just what is the future of the Australian CBD?

Panelists:

  • Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece, City of Melbourne – Melbourne, VIC

  • Kellie Payne, BatesSmart – Sydney, NSW

  • Katrina Sedgwick, MAP Co. – Melbourne, VIC

  • Mark Tait, Investa – Sydney, NSW

  • Philip Oldfield, UNSW (Chair)
