Architectus and Andronas Conservation Architecture

Description

The State Library Victoria spans a full city block and includes 23 buildings that have evolved over the last 160 years. The 2020 Vision for State Library Victoria redevelopment, designed by Architectus with Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, increased public space by 40 percent and seating by 70 percent, and returned the inimitable Ian Potter Queen’s Hall to Victorians after being closed for 15 years.

Architectus is a Major Practice Partner for the Open House Melbourne Weekend.

What's On

Join Architectus Principal Ruth Wilson and Heritage Architect Arthur Andronas on a heritage tour of State Library Victoria – one of Melbourne’s most loved institutions and one of the most visited libraries in the world. Learn about the revitalisation of the Ian Potter Queen’s Hall along with other heritage-listed spaces within the redeveloped Swanston Street landmark. Participants will be able to view the original designs and sketches of the library, and hear about how these drawings were referenced in the award-winning 2020 redevelopment.
