City of Port Phillip

There’s something for everyone in the City of Port Phillip over The Open House Melbourne Weekend – history, art and architecture, great food, take a sneak peak into some of the city’s secret places.

The building was built in 1914 for the railway union and called Loco Hall, the top of the parapet has a model of a train. Ground floor has 4 shop fronts and the main entrance to the foyer and ballroom beyond. The architecture of the building is as was originally designed.

A large, very old reading room that is round in shape. The room is four stories high, and along the walls are balconies and shelves of old books. There are dark timber chairs and desks arranged around the room, and old green lamps sitting on the desks. Around the top of the room are six circular windows, the ceiling is not in view.
