The Victorian Archives Centre holds over 100 kilometres of significant government records dating back to 1836, carefully preserved in a dust-free and climate-controlled environment.

In this new video tour created for OHM 2021, we’ll take you deep into the repository where you’ll find the archival collections of Public Record Office Victoria and the Victorian regional office of the National Archives of Australia. Looking at the theme of ‘reconnect’, we’ll delve into the records that explore immigration, affordable housing and the environment, including the Pritchard Steam-Powered Car of the 1970s and the public housing towers of Flemington and North Melbourne. We’ll also show you how we preserve and digitise our State’s records for future generations.

So join us online for a virtual tour through the public reading room, down the lifts, through the “Get Smart” doors and into the crisp climate of the Archives.
