ACMI Media Preservation Lab tour and screening
Description
Located in the heart of Melbourne's Fed Square, ACMI (formerly Australian Centre for the Moving Image) is your museum of film, TV, art and videogames. Open 364 days a year, ACMI offers both free experiences and ticketed exhibitions and film screenings celebrating all facets of screen culture.
The Blackmagic Design Media Preservation Lab is a purpose-built, glass-fronted laboratory where the ACMI Registration and Collections team undertake focused preservation activities for a range of analog and digital time-based media and complex software-based games and artefacts.
What's On
Get behind-the-scenes access to the Blackmagic Design Media Preservation Lab and learn about ACMI’s collection. The tour will invite visitors into the Media Preservation Lab for an exclusive opportunity to hear from ACMI’s conservators, and engage with the collection and preservation activities.
Members of the public will be given insight into a range of preservation stations within the space and their associated equipment and uses. There will also be a screening of the 1954 short film Planning for Melbourne's Future from ACMI’s collection, showing a visual representation of the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works’ evaluations of the future needs of the city.
