Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre

Williams Ross Architects 2022

Description

The Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre is Australia's first 100% renewable energy-powered aquatic centre with zero greenhouse gas emissions in operation.

The community winner of the Premier's Sustainability Award for Sustainable Places in 2023, the centre represents a significant milestone for aquatic centres in Australia, with its integrated heat pump and heat recovery system for simultaneous water and space heating and cooling, 500kW onsite rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system and a thermal energy storage system. Compared to an equivalent conventional gas-powered centre, the centre is 76% more energy efficient and avoids 1,192 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

What's On

Each tour will include a short presentation about the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre's design and its significance as part of the renewable energy transition in Australia. The tour will also highlight the centre's sustainable design features and feature a behind-the-scenes walk through the all-electric plant.

Children's Activities

There will be no children's activities as part of the behind-the-scenes tour, but the centre's full facilities—including pool, splash park and water slides—will be open to the public as per regular weekend opening hours.
