Description
The South Melbourne Gas Plant was built in 1872 and operated 24 hours a day until it closed in 1957.
In 1986 the industrial buildings were transformed into an inner-urban gathering place for creative minds: home to two theatres, three gallery spaces, studios for 15 resident artists and workshop venues, all within 5 hectares of enclosed parkland.
What's On
The venue is open from 8am on both days. Self-guided tours of the Artist Studios (access 11am–3pm) and a display of historical photographs of the evolution of Gasworks from the 1880s to present day.
