Islamic Museum of Australia
Description
Opened in Thornbury in 2014, Australia’s first Islamic Museum aims to foster a nuanced and realistic understanding of what it means to be an Australian Muslim.
Enveloped in its leafy, semi-industrial Thornbury location, the museum is not out of place. Equally, such is its thoughtful design, the museum would also look at home if it were in the Australian desert, amongst spinifex and atop the red earth, a place well known to the Afghan cameleers whose stories adorn its inner walls.
What's On
The Islamic Museum of Australia will be open to the public for free, giving Melbournians an opportunity to see what lies behind our rusted Corten steel veil. We have five permanent galleries and two visiting gallery spaces.
Children's Activities
Children will be given self-guided tour worksheets.
