Jane's Walks: Behind the Façades walking tour
Description
Go behind Albert Park's elegant terraces and shops to find the hidden infrastructure that tells stories of early working-class life such as chimneys, drains, thunderboxes, bluestone pitchers, cast-iron, dairies, lanes, pipes, woodyards and mixed businesses. Travel the labyrinth of tiny lanes between the cottages in the footsteps of the working people and the horse and carts that delivered ice, briquettes, dunny cans, wood, groceries, milk and bread to the families of gas workers, dockers and factory hands.
What's On
Behind the Façades will offer walkers a view of the hidden infrastructure of early working-class life via the cobble stone laneways of South Melbourne. The tour will be led by historian Meyer Eidelson, member of the Port Phillip Guided Walks team.

Meet Meyer at St Vincent Gardens playground, corner Merton Street and St Vincent Place South, Albert Park. This walk will take place along Albert Park’s footpaths and laneways there may some uneven surfaces along the way.
