Jane’s Walks: Sites of Great Moments
Walk Melbourne’s streets and open spaces and discover the interweaving of personal and public intention and action. From the northern city fringe to Collins Street and down to Melbourne Town Hall, this walk looks at demands for action and reflection in our city life. The art of the city is to critically engage with values. What kind of place and society do we wish to nurture? How should we express dissent? ‘Outside the corridors of power are men and women who make judgments, possess courage, form intentions, captain their souls,’ said the spirited urban commentator Jane Jacobs. This walk engages with the way values determine the future.
We’ll take a walk from St Andrews Place to Spring Street and Collins Street taking in sites of great moment along the way. Expect to enjoy the company of walking, and secrets and stories of the city.
About Jane’s Walks
Jane’s Walks is an international movement of citizen-led walking conversations inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about places, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect.
