Description

Built in 1876, the heritage-listed neo-classical Corinthian-style building was designed by local architects Robert Adamson and William McKean. Once home to the Freemasons’ Yarra Yarra Lodge, the building has been restored to its original Victorian-era splendour, with much of its masonic symbolism intact.
The Melbourne Camera Club celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2021. As part of the continuing celebrations, and coinciding with the Open House Melbourne weekend, the club is staging an exhibition: Emerald Hill Reimagined – Then and Now. This exhibition is about reconnecting with Emerald Hill of 130 years ago by “reimagining” photographs from the past – reinterpreting them – and displaying the original images alongside their reimagined versions. In this way the connection between the club and its immediate environment is highlighted and the “built/unbuilt” is achieved through looking at the past through contemporary eyes.
