Description

The redeveloped Port Phillip EcoCentre is a unique purpose-built facility in the St. Kilda Botanical Gardens that is a leading example of environmental sustainability in construction and operation. Funded by the City of Port Phillip and the Victorian Government, this will be the first public opportunity for visitors to tour the new building and explore its sustainable design features.

What's On

Architects Bourke and Bouteloup will lead the public site tours of the redeveloped Port Phillip EcoCentre, detailing sustainable features such as the cross-laminated timber construction, use of recycled natural materials, thermal performance, and challenges to achieve a high Green Star-rated building. Presentations on the construction will be shown in the community room to support tours. Port Phillip EcoCentre staff and volunteers will coordinate public access and activities, such as demonstrations in the Citizen Science Lab.

Children's Activities

Visitors to the redeveloped EcoCentre will be able to tour the Citizen Science Lab, enjoy tastings from the community kitchen, and enjoy educational activities on site and in the garden surrounds. Port Phillip EcoCentre educators and volunteers will run children's environmental activities, such as local species identification. They can also see Indigenous artwork and a threatened aquatic species display as part of the new building attractions.
