Italianate mansion constructed in c1883 and decorated in 1884

Description

Villa Alba's notable decorated interiors were created by interior art decorating firm Paterson Bros. in 1884. Explore the stories of the public and domestic painted decorative schemes created by the Scottish-born brothers, who formed Marvellous Melbourne's leading interior decorating firm in the latter part of the nineteenth century.

What's On

Based on ongoing research by independent scholar Dr Andrew Montana, the exhibition will cover the brothers' public and private commissions and give visitors an introduction to their surviving work at Villa Alba, the State Parliament Library and the Old Council Chamber in the Victorian Trades Hall.
