Zero Carbon Development in the City of Yarra

Add to Itinerary

Description

The Zero Carbon Development program is the City of Yarra's initiative responding to the climate emergency. Bringing together government, community with leading development industry participants, the program has worked with 24 Victorian councils and CASBE (the Council Alliance for a Sustainable Built Environment) to spearhead a joint planning scheme amendment for zero carbon developments.

In the meantime, while waiting for the planning amendment to be approved, the City of Yarra's local development industry has taken action and developed more than six case studies of zero carbon developments, with more in the pipeline every month. These case studies include commercial offices, mixed-use apartments and townhouses in different contexts and showcasing different design responses, demonstrating that zero carbon development is real, possible and technically and economically feasible in 2024.

What's On

The City of Yarra will proudly showcase more than six case studies of private developments within the City of Yarra that have responded to the climate emergency and committed to a zero carbon performance standard, including commercial offices, mixed-use apartments and townhouses.

Hosting and presenting the event will be the City of Yarra's Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Advisor, Euan Williamson, who has more than 20 years of experience in the sector. Hosting the event from the beautiful top meeting room and roof deck of Bargoonga Nganjin, Yarra Council's 6 Star Green Star-certified library and community hub in North Fitzroy, he will take visitors through various design responses from leading local industry practitioners. The architects and ESD consultants from each case study will be invited to attend and co-present in a collaborative manner, with time for a Q&A and meet-and-greet afterwards.
