Building Description
Box Hill Town Hall is a commanding landmark within the City of Whitehorse. Rich in history and built before WWII, the Box Hill Town Hall played a key role in the war effort for the local community. Today the building is described by the Heritage Review as ‘an excellent example of austere classical revival design applied to a major monumental public building.’ Box Hill Town Hall is of outstanding aesthetic, historical and social significance. The building houses a grand function hall and lower hall, several majestic meeting rooms, the Artspace Gallery and old Box Hill Council Chambers which are presented with their architectural design features preserved.
What's On
See the Old Council Chambers, the Meeting Rooms, Artspace, Main Hall and Lower Hall. Town Hall staff who provide tours on a regular basis will be leading the tours with former Council members and City Clerks on hand to regale with stories of the former City of Box Hill. Artspace Exhibition “Be Persuaded…Jane Austen” from Dressing Australia – Museum of Costume have extended this enchanting exhibition to be open for viewing. Visit the Collectables And Secondhand book stall on Sunday raising funds for Box Hill Historical Society.
