La Trobe’s Cottage
+ Add to ItineraryDescription
La Trobe’s Cottage, the home of Victoria’s first Lieutenant-Governor, includes Melbourne’s oldest surviving building and parts of a prefabricated building brought to Melbourne by La Trobe in 1839. The Cottage was the home of Charles Joseph La Trobe, his Swiss wife Sophie and their children, from 1839 to 1854. The cottage contains many pieces of La Trobe’s furniture and other historic artefacts that reveal a snapshot of early Melbourne life.
