Description

The Victorian Pride Centre is Australia’s first purpose-built hub for LGBTIQ+ communities—a striking architectural and cultural landmark in St Kilda. Designed around themes of collaboration, strength and emergence, the centre’s honeycomb-inspired cut-outs, egg-shaped atrium and bold concrete arches reflect the community’s resilience and ongoing evolution.

Drawing on St Kilda’s rich architectural heritage, the design incorporates Moorish influences into its sculptural form. The use of Brightonlite concrete gives the building a sense of permanence, while unfinished textures suggest organic growth and change.

Now in its third year of operation, the Centre is home to seventeen resident LGBTIQ+ organisations and is a vital hub for events and cultural connection. It houses advocacy, health and legal services, a gallery, community radio station, bookshop, social enterprise café and spaces for community gathering. Regular visitors to the Centre encounter exhibitions, performances and public programs that reflect the richness and diversity of LGBTIQ+ communities in Victoria.

The Pride Centre is more than a building—it’s a living expression of inclusion, visibility and pride. It tells a powerful story of social progress and belonging, and invites the public to step inside and experience the strength, creativity and joy of a community at the heart of Melbourne’s identity

What's On

Visitors are invited to explore the Pride Centre’s striking architecture and learn about its purpose-built design as a home for LGBTIQ+ communities. Guided tours will run throughout both days with the architect and Pride Centre tour guides who will share insights into the building’s form, function and symbolism. Guests can also explore the gallery, rooftop views, and shared spaces. It's a rare opportunity to experience the Victorian Pride Centre from the inside out.
