Description

Located in the heart of Melbourne's Fed Square, ACMI (formerly Australian Centre for the Moving Image) celebrates the wonder and power of the world’s most democratic art form, fostering the next generation of makers, players and watchers. ACMI’s vibrant calendar of exhibitions, screenings, commissions, festivals, and industry and education programs explore the stories, technologies and artists that create our shared screen culture.

What's On

Get behind-the-scenes access to the Blackmagic Design Media Preservation Lab and learn about ACMI’s Collection. The Blackmagic Design Media Preservation Lab is a purpose-built, glass-fronted laboratory where the ACMI Registration and Collections team undertake focused preservation activities for a range of analogue, time-based media, digital and complex software-based games and artefacts. The tour will invite visitors into the Media Preservation Lab for an exclusive opportunity to hear from ACMI’s conservators and learn about the Collection and preservation activities. Members of the public will be given insight into a range of preservation stations within the space and their associated equipment and uses.

Discover local stories on screen with Moments in Time: Home Movies from the ACMI Collection and Loop (1973).

Captured across decades of home filmmaking. Moments in Time is a compilation of home movies from the ACMI Collection – glimpses of birthdays, beach days, backyard antics and quiet rituals. This evocative reel invites you to imagine the personal stories behind the frames, and reflects on how we record, remember and revisit the past.

Loop is a documentary about Melbourne’s Underground Rail Loop, its effect on the entire metropolitan railway system, and on the future of public transport in Melbourne.
