ANZ Gothic Bank Museum and Verdon Chambers
Description
The Gothic Bank first opened in 1887 as the head office for the English, Scottish & Australian Bank (ES&A Bank) and is considered one of the finest examples of Gothic-Revival architecture in Australia. Above the bank sits the Verdon Chambers, comprising 10 rooms of immaculately preserved artwork and ornate features.
As custodians of part of Melbourne's history, ANZ has recently restored the banking chamber to become the ANZ Banking Museum, featuring a range of artefacts and exhibitions from the colonial gold rush period through to modern-day banking. Other architectural features include the recently restored mosaic tiled floors, the 23-karat gold leaf stencilling on the ceiling, and the repurposed blackwood teller counters from 1887.

Take a self-guided tour of the ANZ Banking Museum inside the magnificent Gothic Bank chamber and discover the history of banking and more stories by exploring the Museum. You can also join a pre-booked guided tour of the Verdon Chambers, the former residence of ES&A Bank Governor Sir George Verdon.
