Incorporating a formal garden and historic house, Brighton’s Billilla Historic Mansion is undoubtedly one of Bayside’s most iconic buildings.
The mansion was built by merchant Robert Wright in 1878 on land which had originally been owned by Nicholas Were. With exquisite formal gardens, which retain much of their original 19th century layout, the property was owned by the Weatherly family (whom named it Billilla) from 1888 to 1972 before being purchased by Brighton City Council and retained as a historically significant building and site.
Having been in private commercial use for the past 15 years, the council is now working to bring the historic property back to community use. Open for public consultation, this will be a rare opportunity to see inside this beautiful estate.
