Description

Collins St Baptist Church is unique among Melbourne’s city churches. Its classical temple façade features four Corinthian columns at the top of an imposing flight of Victorian bluestone steps. The harmony of the exterior continues inside, with the straight lines, symmetry and height of the sanctuary projecting serenity and calm. The current building was designed by Joseph Reed, architect of the nearby Town Hall, and completed in 1862.

What's On

Visitors are welcome to tour the building. Members of the church community will be on hand to talk more about its history as the home of the oldest continuing Baptist congregation in Australia, and its continuing commitment to social justice.

Children's Activities

Children have the option of taking a detective trail sheet and following the clues around the building accompanied by a carer. There is also a children’s corner with toys.
