Farm Viganò: From Plan to Place

Hansen Partnership and Working Heritage

Description

Farm Viganò has played a critical role in Melbourne's hospitality history. Join us to see how careful planning and adaptive reuse can allow Melbourne’s rich heritage to evolve to deliver vibrant and valued places for communities. Hear about the site's fascinating history and the role that planning can play in turning good ideas into a cohesive vision for sites and support real change.

What's On

Farm Viganò is a link to the emergence of Italian culture in Melbourne—of food, music, art, and family—and is a crucial tie to the life of the influential Viganò’s who used the property as an escape from their busy Mario’s Restaurant on Exhibition Street in Melbourne.

Join Jane Keddie, director of Hansen Partnership, as she shares her insights into the ongoing evolution of this important site. Having been responsible for the delivery of the site master plan, and with continued involvement in the site's improvement via Working Heritage who manage the site, Jane can talk to the strategic context of the site and highlight how planning and adaptive reuse of heritage places can establish a shared vision and create positive outcomes.

The Farm Viganò site tour will include a short introductory talk about the site and highlight the role of planning in shaping its ongoing evolution within the broader Plenty Valley Parklands. Topics like how history can be reflected in place, such as through the orchard planting, and how places can evolve, will all be explored in the context of practical responses to site challenges. Attendees can then walk through and learn more about key interventions on site.
