Located in a restored 1920s heritage motor garage on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, Fisher & Paykel’s Melbourne Experience Centre by Clare Cousins Architects embodies a sense of warm minimalism grounded in earth, craft and hospitality.

As the brand’s seventh global experience centre, it reflects Fisher & Paykel’s design philosophy through three distinct kitchens: the Minimal, the Contemporary and the Professional, each showcasing the brand’s refined appliances within a cohesive architectural setting.

The architects approached the heritage building with care, restoring its symmetry and revealing original brickwork, timber ceilings and trusses, unified through a subtle, tonal palette.

Material authenticity is central to the project, expressed through a red brick Palladiana floor, a rammed earth entry plinth made from Victorian soil, rich terracotta tiles and warm Australian spotted gum timber. Local craftsmanship defines the interiors, with an Otway blackwood table crafted by Made By Morgen, chairs by Paul Vizzari made from leftover timber, and botanical sculptures by Hattie Molloy. Beyond the kitchens, the centre includes dedicated areas for wine storage, outdoor cooking and fabric care, reflecting Fisher & Paykel’s vision of a connected and holistic home. Guests are welcomed with tea warmed on basalt rock—a thoughtful nod to the brand’s New Zealand heritage and its union of technology, nature and design.

Join a guided tour led by the Fisher & Paykel Design Engagement Team, a group of experienced architects and interior designers. The tour will explore themes of collaboration and the integration of New Zealand brand identity within a strong sense of place. Participants will gain insight into how local materials and craftsmanship were used to create a distinctive, experiential interior that speaks directly to the design community and reflects Fisher & Paykel’s design philosophy.
