Jane’s Walk: Meet me in Montague
Meet me in Montague
Montague is part of Fishermans Bend and it’s feeling the development pressure. Montague’s mix of small and large sites and blue stone lanes are cues to its earlier life as a dense residential community. This walk will reveal a place in massive transition as well as stories of the lost community of Montague.
Meeting place: Boundary x Station St, Port MelbourneWalk leader: Janet Bolitho. Janet is interested in how the past shapes our present and future. She runs walks through Port Places featuring Port Melbourne, the lower Yarra and Fisherman’s Bend.
Jane’s Walk
Jane’s Walk sets out to inspire urban literacy and a community-based approach to city building. Citizen-led walking tours under the Jane’s Walk banner make space for anyone to observe, reflect, question and collectively reimagine the places where they live, work and play. The walks create the space for people to learn about aspects of their city, connect with strangers and share ideas. They highlight some of the challenges faced in major cities such as development, climate extremes and pressures on green space and also explore how people positively influence and change the cities they love.
