Joss House Temple Archaeologist Tour
Constructed in the 1870s, the heritage-listed Joss House is still operating as a Chinese temple today. Come and learn more about the temple’s archaeological significance and the inspiring story of Chinese immigrants who came to Bendigo in search of gold from local archaeologist and heritage consultant, Dr Gary Hill.
During this tour, you will be guided through this nearly 150-year-old temple and gain an understanding of how and why the temple is designed in order to cater for the cultural beliefs of its community. The tour will also include a discussion around the original brick kiln that was found partially buried beneath the road leading up to the temple.
