Koorie Heritage Trust: First Peoples Cultures and Songlines in Art, Design and Architecture
Description
The Koorie Heritage Trust has expanded to occupy all three levels of the Birrarung Building at Fed Square. This has created a stand-alone and independent First Peoples arts and cultural centre—a first of its kind in an Australian capital city.
KHT has worked extensively with a design collaboration (led by Lyons Architects) between First Nations architect Jefa Greenaway of Greenaway Architects, Lyons and Sam Hunter of Architecture Associates, to develop a considered and beautiful plan for the interior design and fitout that reflects Country and place, and which responds in a culturally sensitive way to both organisational and First Peoples community needs, values and aspirations.
What's On
Explore our award-winning interior, find out about the design meaning, view our exhibitions and peek into our vast collection of cultural objects.
As part of the self-guided tour, a brochure will be available at the Wominjeka Desk, highlighting significant architectural features of this unique building. As you explore, look beyond the exhibitions and discover the many design elements that quietly reveal these stories of Country and culture. A video from First Peoples architect, Jefa Greenaway of Greenaway Architects, will also be playing in our Moogji Lounge.
Children's Activities
Kids will have the opportunity to make a badge about their visit to KHT.
