Description

Completed in 2026 after more than a decade of planning and construction, Melbourne Quarter is one of Melbourne’s largest contemporary mixed-use precincts.

Creative agency and production house Broached Commissions curated, commissioned and conceived the creative direction for Melbourne Quarter’s Public Art. Working with artists including John Warwicker, Geoff Nees and Reko Rennie, the integrated artworks weave the site's history, from a garden maintained by the Kulin nation to its time as Batman's Hill, into the contemporary precinct.

As part of Open House Melbourne 2026, Melbourne Quarter will host a program of guided tours and talks exploring the precinct’s evolution from large-scale development to a working part of the city.

  Broached Commissions

  Broached is a research and narrative-driven production house. We commission and create collectible design and provide creative direction for public art and interior commercial spaces, such as hotels and hospitality.
  
  Our research interrogates how design has participated in the great events that have defined the modern world. We see design not as a tool for good, but as a diverse industry whose primary role is the aestheticising of power. We create works that critique the role of design, especially its largely baseless claim to a progressive legacy. This preoccupation serves as a springboard for the development and materialisation of deeply informative and intriguing objects, exhibitions and spaces.
