MLC Nicholas Learning Centre and Principal’s Terrace


The Nicholas Learning Centre for Years 7 and 8 girls is an award-winning building and landscape on the Kew campus of Methodist Ladies College, in Melbourne’s inner east. The new centre provides four levels of learning and external learning spaces, namely the Nicholas Learning Centre, the Principal’s Terrace Garden and the Rooftop Garden in the heart of the Senior School campus.

A transformational project for the school born from its master plan, the project dealt with challenging levels and an integrated design approach transforming the centre of the school into a much-loved building and landscape. The centre provides versatile learning spaces and a generous lawn with ramped access through a terraced landscape, framed by seasonally expressive gardens, with ample seating. A state-of-the-art building complements the landscape with a variety of teaching and learning spaces as well as a rooftop terrace that is edged by timber seating and circular decking.

The Rooftop Garden provides additional green space, outdoor learning opportunities, and social and functional areas with expansive views of Melbourne’s city skyline.

Enjoy a walk through the contemporary landscape and building. Join a tour of the Principal’s Terrace Garden and through the Nicholas Learning Centre, up to the Rooftop Garden with views of Melbourne’s City Skyline. Tours conducted by TCL with a representative from McIldowie Partners.
