Monash Makerspace

Description

Monash Makerspace is a state-of-the-art fabrication and prototyping centre at Monash University’s Clayton campus. It forms part of the ‘Monash Smart Manufacturing Precinct’: a series of integrated, contemporary spaces that facilitate smart manufacturing innovation and an ecosystem of convergence between students, researchers, industry and enterprise.
The Makerspace is a hub for youthful ambition where students engage with and develop skills for future manufacturing. It enables creative, active, and participatory learning for interdisciplinary project teams including the award-winning Monash Motorsport student team and Monash High Powered Rocketry team. A series of formal and informal build and workspace zones, it includes areas for machining and fabrication, as well as spaces for material-testing that encourage students to fabricate using high-performance resins. This purpose-built, collaborative environment is a dedicated space to dream, design and make, enabling students to engage with authentic projects and develop skills for their future careers.
On the building’s eastern edge, a native landscape and pedestrianised Exhibition Walk replaces a roadway and loading areas and interfaces with the Woodside Building for Technology and Design. It builds on the university’s vision for a pedestrian-oriented campus that places learning, teaching and research ‘on show’ in the campus public realm.
