Montsalvat Arts Centre

Justus Jorgensen with his artist community 1934

Description

Celebrate 90 years with Montsalvat, Australia’s oldest continuously operating artists' collective. Blending art with architecture, community and culture, Montsalvat is an ode to artistic practice, sustainable architecture and connection to people and place.

From mudbrick cottages to vaulted halls, explore a world hand-built by Justus Jorgensen and his followers. Gargoyles and bosses, stained glass windows and countless sculptures await discovery as the relics of lives dedicated to creativity, with Montsalvat as their witness.

Today, this legacy is upheld by our studio artists and all who contribute and celebrate art of all forms at this historic place.

What's On

Montsalvat is open to the public as a heritage site and creative program space, as well as an operating artist community. Visitors can expect to see studio artists working onsite, exhibitions across multiple galleries, incredible examples of early environmental architecture as well as free roaming birdlife.

There will also be self-guided tour pamphlets available outlining the 90-year-old history of Montsalvat, as well as a variety of art-centric activities for kids and adults alike. On the evening of Sunday 28 there will be an outdoor wine bar and Montsalvat’s monthly Jazz Night concert in the Barn Gallery, with tickets available at the door on the day.

Children's Activities

There will be a bingo activity sheet and an attended kids colouring station, as well as a variety of entertainment.
