One More Night at Meyers Place with Six Degrees

Meyers Place, Six Degrees Architects 1994. Relocation and new venue, Herbert & Mason 2019.

Description

Rediscover Meyers Place, Melbourne’s inaugural laneway bar. Designed and built by Six Degrees 30 years ago, it emerged from the rubble of the early '90s recession to define ‘Melbourne cool’. Constructed primarily from salvaged materials, the bar served as ground zero for a Melbourne revolution.

Evicted from its original location beneath the Italian Waiters Club in 2017, it resurfaced, along with much of the original fit-out, at nearby 7/24 Crossley Street in 2019, now carrying on the legacy as Bard’s Apothecary. Join us there for a floor talk with one of Six Degrees' founding directors, James Legge.

What's On

You will be reintroduced to the early days of Melbourne's emerging laneway culture. Explore what led to the changes that firmly placed Melbourne on the cultural map. Discover how the inaugural Meyers Place set the scene, learn about its creation and the factors that led to its closure and relocation under new ownership. Join us on an excursion into Melbourne's more recent history, presented by Six Degrees Director James Legge, and delve into what defines a good city and what is necessary to keep it alive. There will be time for a drink and Q&A at the bar.
