Sites of Indigenous Significance in Kulin Melbourne: Walking Tour

In partnership between the Koorie Heritage Trust, Indigenous Architecture and Design Victoria and Open House Melbourne, Indigenous architect Jefa Greenaway will lead a guided group walking tour of Indigenous sites of significance in Kulin Melbourne.

Learn about sites of intangible cultural heritage, contemporary Indigenous architecture and design, commemorative markers, local Aboriginal organisations and important historic and political sites.

Jefa Greenaway is a founding director of Indigenous Architecture and Design Victoria and Greenaway Architects and is also an academic at the University of Melbourne, and has led contemporary architectural projects, including: Ngarara Place, RMIT; The Koorie Heritage Trust, and The Lowitja Institute.

Meeting point: Koorie Heritage Trust Foyer, Level 1, Yarra Building, Federation Square.

  • The Black Mile (Gertrude Street, Fitzroy)
  • You Are, Here Now, Megan Cope (Australian Catholic University Façade)
  • Pastor Sir Douglas + Lady Gladys Nicholls Memorial
  • The Moreton Bay Fig Tree (Carlton Gardens)
  • Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre (Melbourne Museum)
  • Lowitja Institute
  • Tunnerminnerwait + Maulboyheener Public Marker
  • The William Barak Building
  • Ngarara Place (RMIT University)
  • Pre-Colonial Red-River Gums (University of Melbourne)
  • Aboriginal Remains (Buried within the historic cemetery beneath the Queen Victoria Market)
  • Aboriginal Remains (Pre-Invasion Aboriginal Burial Ground)
  • The Koorie Heritage Trust
  • Birrarung Wilam (campsite on the river of mists)
  • Aboriginal Remains (Reburial site of repatriated Aboriginal remains)
  • The Wilin Garden (The Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development, Faculty of the VCA and MCM, University of Melbourne)
