Small and Smart Living in the City
Join Peter Maddison – award-winning architect, host of Grand Designs Australia, and designer of RACV Tiny Home – and 5×4 Hayes Lane builder and owner Ralph Alphonso in conversation for a discussion about living small and smart in the city.
Designed by Peter Maddison from Maddison Architects, the RACV Tiny Home is a concept dwelling that has been designed and built with the purpose of helping Victorians understand their homes and demonstrate the changing nature of how we live. Complete with all the mod-cons, the Tiny Home focuses on what contributes to making a home perform well, so it is comfortable to live in and affordable to run. RACV Tiny Home is located at 100–102 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne for the duration of Open House Melbourne.
The 5×4 Hayes Lane Project is a unique, inner-city dwelling set on a tiny footprint – 5×4 meters! The build is designed, built and powered with both passive and active eco-driven processes, materials and performance considerations. The 5×4 Hayes Lane Project encourages discussion around sustainable living and a healthy form of densification in the City of Melbourne, and demonstrates how to achieve it through best practice design and living. 5×4 Hayes Lane is open for tours during Open House Melbourne. Presented by RACV.
