Transurban Freeway Control Centre

Delivered by the Victorian Government and Transurban, with construction partner CPB John Holland Joint Venture and architectural and urban design firms Wood Marsh and Tract Consulting.

Description

Visit the brand new state-of-the-art Freeway Control Centre at Footscray which operates CityLink and the new West Gate Tunnel. You'll hear the stories behind the West Gate Tunnel's striking urban design, and see what it takes to keep traffic moving safety and smoothly 24/7 across Melbourne's busy motorways.

What's On

You'll meet Transurban Traffic Control Officers and see the latest traffic technology at work, and get a tour of the brand new operations building completed as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project.

While you're nearby, check out the 2.8-hectare green space on Whitehall Street in Footscray. Extending local greenery from the gardens to the Maribyrnong River, the space was created as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project to transform underutilised industrial land into a new place to visit, rest and reflect. Alongside new walking and cycling paths, the water basin in the wetland will help clean local water, provide a new home for native plants and wildlife, and minimise local flood risk.

The new park features seating and artistic panel designs by two indigenous artists - Stacey Edwards and John Xiberras - helping creating places to connect with the heritage and culture of the surrounding land, water and First Peoples of the area.
