Description
The University of Melbourne’s Buxton Contemporary art museum opened in 2018 at its Southbank campus, home to the Victorian College of the Arts. Designed by renowned architects Fender Katsalidis, the museum comprises four public exhibition galleries, teaching facilities, and an outdoor screen dedicated to the display of moving image art.
Buxton Contemporary is located in the heart of the Melbourne arts precinct, where it provides a creative forum through which the university presents an exhibition program to invite consideration and appreciation of the practices of contemporary artists.
What's On
SUSAN JACOBS – THE ANTS ARE IN THE IDIOM: In her first presentation in Melbourne since 2015, Susan Jacobs’ solo exhibition comprises newly commissioned works, and invites viewers to meditate on the relationship between language and matter.
STILL LIFE: This exhibition blurs imagination with empirical observation, pairing the work of eleven contemporary artists with botanical drawings and models from the university’s Herbarium collection, in a contemplation on the interconnectedness of life.
A curator floor talk will run on Saturday 30 July at 11.30am.
An architect’s talk will run on Sunday 31 July at 11.30am.
