Description

Yalinguth (meaning 'yesterday' in Woi Wurrung) is an award-winning augmented audio app connecting people to place and history through soundscapes and stories told by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

In keeping with oral traditions and to minimise screens, Yalinguth is expressed entirely through sound. The overall premise of Yalinguth is guided by the words of the Elders: "we need to go back to go forwards".

For this year’s Open House, Yalinguth is hosting a guided walking tour with special guests along the Birrarung in the Melbourne's CBD.

What's On

On this two hour guided walking tour with performances, Yalinguth will take you on a magical journey through time. Starting at Fed Square, discover the layers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and significant places along the Birrarung all the way to the MCG.
You're invited to connect with country—like an ‘open house’—with Aboriginal Elders and performers sharing stories that have shaped Naarm. Learn about the eel harvest, Coranderrk mission, and Marngrook – the original Aussie rules football. Well known places will be re-imaged as the layers of history are discovered.
This walking tour will be guided by Yorta Yorta custodian and Yalinguth Creative Director, Jason Tamiru, with various performances along the way.
If you are unable to join the guided tour, the Yalinguth app is available for you to download and experience with headphones 24/7 in Gertrude Street, Fitzroy and along the Birrarung in the CBD, from Enterprize Park to the MCG.
