1 Hotel Melbourne & Seafarers Rest: The Adaptive Reuse of Goods Shed No.5
+ Add to ItineraryDescription
The Seafarers precinct recently opened its doors, transforming a historic stretch of North Wharf into an extraordinary new destination for Melbourne. Developed by Melbourne-based Riverlee, the Seafarers precinct is home to Australia’s first 1 Hotel & Homes and the waterfront park Seafarers Rest—offering a vibrant new destination for the city to experience and enjoy.
At its heart stands the beautifully restored Goods Shed No. 5, where over 2,000 salvaged items have been revitalised to create a dynamic hospitality hub. The heritage-listed shed and its striking crane honour the site’s maritime history, with interpretive signage bringing its stories to life.
Incorporating over 4,500 square metres of recycled timber and lush greenery, the precinct also features Seafarers Rest, a 3,500-square-metre riverside park blending native plantings, contemporary design, and maritime artefacts.
With native flora, recycled materials and the carefully restored Goods Shed, the Seafarers precinct celebrates the spirit of its remarkable location—offering something truly special for visitors and locals alike.
