500 Bourke Street Retrofit Building Tour

+ Add to Itinerary

Presented by: FK + ISPT

Description

Originally designed by Godfrey & Spowers in 1977, 500 Bourke Street was a single-tenant building that previously served as NAB's headquarters. When they left the building in 2019, architecture firm FK was engaged by ISPT to transform it into an inviting and appealing workplace for a community of tenants.

Guided by ISPT's ESG commitments, the holistic retrofit aimed to create an industry-leading, carbon-neutral operational workplace. Completed in 2023, this involved upgrading services and introducing new, world-class amenities, while carefully retaining the existing structure. FK's design philosophy centred on reinvigorating the building's iconic status and respecting its architectural heritage while adapting it to 21st-century needs.

The interior architecture prioritises a human-centred approach, focusing on its users' needs. Key interventions have transformed the ground floor lobby, basement, lower mezzanine and level one, reimagining previously segmented spaces into welcoming third spaces and premium amenities for tenant and public use.

What's On

On Friday, join Nicky Drobis from FK and Nicole Ward from ISPT for an informal and intimate fireside chat, where they will discuss the retrofit process for 500 Bourke Street and its importance to the built environment. Following the chat, the audience will be broken into two smaller groups and given a guided building tour.

On Saturday, we’ll be hosting guided building tours of 500 Bourke Street.
