ECHO.1: Melbourne's First Turnkey Passivhaus Development

+ Add to Itinerary

Presented by: C.Street Projects

Description

ECHO.1 is the first build-to-sell project in the country that offers turnkey Passivhaus certification. These three-bedroom homes are continuously ventilated with fresh, filtered air, significantly reducing allergens and pollutants in the home. They are designed to maintain a comfortable 20-25°C in all seasons, using 70% less energy than a typical Victorian home and are incredibly quiet, thanks to triple glazed windows, straw panel insulation and intelligent airtight membranes. Additionally, they have electric vehicle chargers, photovoltaic solar and battery storage, operating as net zero energy buildings for the ultimate sustainable lifestyle.

ECHO.1 homes are designed to use approximately 5000kWh per year, compared to the average Victoria home that uses 19,000kWh of electricity and gas annually. With a projected solar generation of more than 5500kWh each year plus battery storage, these homes effectively operate as Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEB).

ECHO.1 is an opportunity to consider how we value the quality of our homes, and the importance of comfort and energy efficiency in the face of a harsher climate. The project is a proof of concept that the private sector can take market-based actions to play a significant role in the decarbonisation of the building sector, which accounts for a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
