Presented by: City of Melbourne

Description

Discover more about the Greenline Project, a transformative initiative by the City of Melbourne to transform four kilometres along the north bank of the Yarra River – Birrarung.

Following the Master Plan's multi-international and national award-winning design, the project team and landscape architects will guide participants through key sites, highlighting how the Greenline Project is reshaping Melbourne’s public realm.

This tour will start by exploring the Greenline Project Hub, a repurposed steel-glass modular building, demonstrating circular economy practices. Originally a showroom for Mirvac, the structure was disassembled, stored and reassembled at its new location to support sustainability and adaptive reuse. Before the tour, visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the Hub’s green roof and its function in showcasing the Greenline Project’s vision.

Join the landscape architect and the project team on a journey along the river. Discover how the project will reshape the city, offering unique experiences for residents and visitors alike and creating welcoming spaces for everyone to enjoy.

What's On

Departing from the Greenline Project Hub at Federation Square, this 120-minute guided tour will be led by landscape architects and the City of Melbourne’s project team. Visitors will begin with a 15-minute Hub tour, showcasing the adaptive reuse of the modular structure and its green roof as a model for sustainable urban design. University of Melbourne landscape architecture students will present their studio works at the Hub, offering insights into their research and design concepts inspired by the Greenline Project.

The walk continues through Birrarung Marr, highlighting Traditional Owner connections to the river, before following Federation Wharf to Enterprize Park. Along the way, we will explore urban renewal, ecological restoration and cultural heritage, illustrating how the Greenline Project is reshaping Melbourne’s waterfront while honouring the river as a living entity.
