Description

Built on the esplanade and overlooking the bay, Marli Place is one of the best known and well-loved blocks of flats in St Kilda. It began as three small terrace houses in 1854, and is now thought to be Melbourne’s fourth oldest surviving terrace. By the height of the Victorian gold rush it had expanded into five mansion-sized townhouses; by the Great Depression it was nine small subdivided flats. From its grandest to its most bohemian days, it has been the home of many of St Kilda’s most interesting residents. Marli Place is a living document of St Kilda’s historic socio-economic rollercoaster ride.

What's On

Marli Place homeowners, including two architects who live there, will lead house tours discussing the history of the building, with visits to at least two flat interiors.
