Morwell Historical Society

Description

The Morwell Historical Society was formed in 1962 with an ongoing goal to promote, preserve and record securely the history of Morwell and district, and to make information in our archives readily available to the general public.

The district includes the areas of Churchill, Driffield, Hazelwood Estate, Hazelwood South, Hazelwood North, Darlimurla, Delburn, Gunyah Gunyah, Jeeralang Junction, Jumbuk, Morwell West, Morwell Bridge, Yinnar, Boolarra, Derham’s Hill, Hernes Oak and White City.

Currently based out of a former Masonic Lodge dating back to 1927, the society provides an important community service where people can come to celebrate times past, congregate and share stories, and build community and connection. The society also creates regular exhibitions and displays of documents and photographs from the society’s collection.

What's On

When visitors enter our building, they take a trip down memory lane. From early school photos to post war settlement; from the importance of power production in the Valley to memorabilia from days gone past; there is something to see for everyone.

Our volunteers dedicate their time so that the community has a place where they can reminisce, research and share their connection to Morwell. Visitors will be able to purchase the locally-produced DVD 'Morwell Past and Present' and other local history books and take a slice of local history home with them.
