No Rezzavations House

+ Add to Itinerary

Presented by: Sarah Lake Architects

Description

No Rezzavations House was designed on a tight budget with big ambitions. Situated in Reservoir (colloquially known as Rezza), approximately 10 kilometres north of Melbourne CBD, the renovation was for a family of four, along with two cats, four chickens and a hive of bees. The new addition consists of a new living, dining, kitchen on ground floor, with a main bedroom, ensuite and balcony on first floor. The materials used were simple and cost-effective.

The house's main architectural feature, a large timber garden trellis screen, wraps around a new two-storey extension at the rear of the house. Attached to the existing house, it runs as a shading device in front of the north façade of the extension, before bending around to form an outdoor living space. Plants growing on the screen and filling the space between help further insulate the house. The screen also speaks to its context, referencing bold arches and latticework seen elsewhere in the suburb.

What's On

Come join a building tour led by the architect through the house, discussing design ideas and how they relate to the clients and the suburb. The tour will include the interiors and the exterior, and people will be able to view the screen and wider garden.
