A striking modernist building façade with repetitive scalloped brickwork forms and arch-shaped entrances, lit warmly from within, creating a rhythmic and sculptural aesthetic.
A contemporary and linear grey and white-patterned brick structure with perforated wave-like timber tunnel entrances
students walk through the playful, organic opening that contrasts with the rectilinear backdrop.
A bold, angular structure animated by a vivid lime green and black colour palette, intersected by a striking ramp clad in white and cobalt blue checkered brickwork.

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School—Keilor East Campus Tour

+ Add to Itinerary

Presented by: McBride Charles Ryan

Description

MCR has worked with Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS) for over 15 years, developing a series of projects that rethink the educational campus as a kind of wondrous mini-city.

Our earliest curiosities are formed at school. Whether in the classroom or school yard, it is in this environment we learn for the first time that you could fit over a million planet Earths inside the Sun; that sound travels via invisible waves through the air; and that plants capture and convert light and carbon dioxide into matter for them to grow; and air for us to breathe. It is from this understanding that MCR’s Architecture for PEGS derives.

At their Keilor East campus are four unique projects that provide structure, organisation, legibility and diversity to the campus—but more than that, they provide countless opportunities to witness how theory manifests in physical form, and how delightful our world can be.

What's On

Join a campus tour led by an MCR practitioner and learn of the stories behind the design and construction of each project.

This event will provide a campus tour to small groups through the entire Keilor East campus, led by an MCR practitioner. You will learn the stories behind the design and construction of each project, and have the opportunity to ask questions along the way.

The tour will begin and end at the main campus entry of the Middle Girls’ school building. An MCR designer will lead you through the Middle Girls’ school (2015) before continuing to the Middle Boys’ school (2013), ‘Infinity Centre’ Senior school (2012) and Gymnasium and Events Centre (2021).
